Launching our first World Majlis. Conversations that matter.
Sustainability through new eyes | World Majlis - 14 May, 2018
By highlighting the lessons and achievements of the UAE’s Founding Father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, this World Majlis session reflected on how we can draw from traditional values as well as current thinking on sustainability to create a meaningful impact for Expo 2020 Dubai.
WHAT IS A WORLD MAJLIS?
The World Majlis is deeply rooted in the Emirati and Arab tradition of the majlis – a highly valued meeting space where people gather to gain different perspectives and share informed opinions to help shape decisions on subjects that matter to their communities. The World Majlis brings together thought leaders and future change-makers from diverse backgrounds, who may otherwise not have connected. It encourages open, informed and measured conversations, with the objective to explore and better understand areas of significance to society from multiple points of view.
The goal of these conversations is to generate new perspectives and incubate meaningful connections between people and new ideas.
The World Majlis will take place in the UAE and internationally in the lead-up to and during Expo 2020 and aims to open new horizons around Expo 2020’s theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, and key subthemes, Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
Hosted in culturally significant locations, these conversations are committed to an inclusive and constructive dialogue of the highest quality, in an environment that reflects the UAE’s tradition of welcome and respect… the Majlis.
EXPO 2020 DUBAI
A World Expo is a celebration for all, a global destination where everyone can learn, innovate, create progress, and have fun by sharing ideas and working together. Expo 2020 Dubai is guided by the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas combining in new ways. For six months from 20 October, 2020, Expo aims to bring together 180 countries and millions of people to celebrate human ingenuity: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
Expo 2020 Dubai is the first World Expo to take place in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. Organisers expect 25 million visits, with about 70 per cent of all visitors expected to come from outside the UAE – the largest proportion of international visitors in Expo history. With more than 200 participants, including nations, multilateral organisations, businesses and educational institutions, it will be one of the most inclusive and global World Expos ever.
